2015 Post-Year Round-Up
2015 was a year to remember for the HOUSE OF BOXING. The year that will always be known as the “Year of Mega Fights”, the House of Boxing can say we were small part of those events. In April and October, the HOUSE OF BOXING was fortunate to host media events for both Saul “Canelo” Alvarez’s fights, against James Kirkland in May and Miguel Cotto in November. Both were great turnouts as the media and the fans alike were pleased with what they saw in the Mexican superstar.
From a Mexican superstar to a rising prospect, Antonio “Relentless” Orozco has demonstrated to the media and high ranking boxing officials that he is a force to be reckoned with. In his two fights this year, Orozco was challenged by a young and explosive Emmanuel Taylor and the experienced veteran Humberto Soto. Due to the great challenge that Taylor offered Orozco, the decision was made by manager Frank Espinoza to bring in Taylor to prepare Orozco for the biggest fight of his life, versus Soto. Fortunately the decision paid off as Orozco was able to take a unanimous decision win in his HBO debut at the StubHub Center, ever-becoming the “Mecca of Boxing.” The young Orozco’s work has just begun, as he will keep rising the ranks of the Jr. Welterweight Division. Orozco isn’t the only young prospect coming from the HOUSE OF BOXING as RocNation’s Miguel “Zurdo” Sanchez hailing from Culiacan, Sinaloa, Mexico is also calling the House of Boxing home. Zurdo had a spectacular 2015 campaign as he went 3-0 with 2 KO’s to improve his record to a very impressive 12-0 9KO.
While Orozco is known for his power punching in the ring, he can also be known as person who gives back to the community. This past month, Orozco and his trainer Carlos Barragan Jr. participated in a Los Angeles Toy Drive hosted by the Golden Boy himself Oscar De La Hoya. Golden Boy Promotions handed out toys and smiles to 1,400 children and made their Christmas one not to forget. This isn’t the only time members of the House of Boxing have helped contribute to the community. In June, coaches and members of the House of Boxing contributed a great amount kids in the Run-a-Thon at Paradise Hills Elementary School. The House also produced boxing events such as the “Rumble on Reo” which was a stellar opportunity for the community as people were able to see great amateur fighters from near and far go toe-to-toe in action-packed fights. In fact, some of House of Boxing’s own amatuer fighters paricipated in what was a great experience for them.
In all, it was a great and growing year for us. The House of Boxing family, we would like to thank the people that made this year special. Special THANKS goes out to Golden Boy Promotions and Team Canelo for making us a small part of what were huge wins for Canelo and Mexico. We would also like to thank Frank Espinoza, Espinoza Promotions, and Golden Boy Promotions for creating opportunities to build Antonio into the fighter he is today. We look forward to our ongoing building of the Champion he will become. We would also like to thank Roc Nation Sports for contributing to the growth of the talented young fighter in Miguel “Zurdo” Sanchez. We would like to thank the community of Paradise Hills for embracing us and allowing us to participate in great community events and to everybody that steps through our doors daily! Together will will make 2016 great!
